Home Sweet Home! I was at a She Recovers conference last weekend in New York. It was nothing short of amazing and I cannot WAIT to share some of the things I learned there. I got home late Monday night and am anxious to delve into my notes. Of course, I bought more books there and I really want to just curl up and read, but that is not going to happen! At least for today.
So more to come on all of that excitement, but this week it’s all about Mom.
This post has been floating around on Facebook this week and, while it might hold about as much clout as a Hallmark Card, it is well said:
"Every year ( well, maybe not every year) my children ask me the same question. After thinking about it, I decided I'd give them my real answer:
'What do I want for Mother's Day? I want you. I want you to keep coming around, I want you to bring your kids around, I want you to ask me questions, ask my advice, tell me your problems, ask for my opinion, ask for my help. I want you to come over and rant about your problems, rant about life, whatever. Tell me about your job, your worries, your kids, your fur babies. I want you to continue sharing your life with me. Come over and laugh with me, or laugh at me, I don't care. Hearing you laugh is music to me.I spent the better part of my life raising you the best way I knew how. Now, give me time to sit back and admire my work.
Raid my refrigerator, help yourself, I really don't mind. In fact, I wouldn't want it any other way. I want you to spend your money making a better life for you and your family, I have the things I need. I want to see you happy and healthy. When you ask me what I want for Mother's Day, I say "nothing" because you've already been giving me my gift all year. I want you.'

When I read this, I thought, this is so true. When I turned 50 last September, my kids wrote me letters and they are by far the best gift I have ever received. I plan on reading them again Sunday morning to start the day. So, if you are wondering what to get the mom who has it all I would suggest the letter thing. Don’t copy and paste, just share your heart. I guarantee you she will melt like butter.
The Bible doesn't say, “her children shall rise up and call her blessed” for no reason. It's pretty much a command and this would be a great weekend to follow it, don’t you think?
My personal cup overflows in the department of mothers. I am blessed to have my mom, mother-in-law, and my stepmom present in my life. I am sure if I were a teenager, I would not count this as such a large blessing! However, being a mom and grandma myself, I count it all joy.
I am excited this upcoming year for the young mothers in our family as we have two more grand babies on the way!
Last year, my heart broke for my daughter as we thought about what might have been, had she not had a miscarriage. That being said, I want to remind you to be sensitive to those for whom Mother's Day is dark. I know quite a few people that for them, this day that is really really hard. Remember to give an extra hug and a prayer for those people in your life.
Lastly, let's remember the most giving mother of all. Mary, the mother of Jesus. She raised her son to die a painful death for all of us. I don’t think there has ever been a mother since Mary that has had to endure that much pain. If you feel like you have been close to that (and I am sure there are many,) we especially honor you on Mother's Day.
